
dubuntu 26.04 It is now availableIt comes with many changes, but the one that will immediately stand out upon starting the operating system is the change in accent color. The previous color was red, while Resolute Raccoon's has changed to a bluish one (you can see the folder in the lower right corner of the header screenshot). As a reminder, Edubuntu is essentially Ubuntu GNOME with tools designed for education.
Like the main version it's based on, Edubuntu 26.04 uses the GNOME 50 desktop environment and the Linux 7.0 kernel. They've also switched from Totem to Showtime as the default media player.

The list of our own new features would be as follows:
- The Edubuntu installer has been completely rewritten from scratch in Python with dual GTK4 and Qt6 interfaces. The application automatically detects your desktop environment and launches the appropriate interface. It also includes a new Cockpit module for web-based remote administration of Edubuntu's age-group settings. Translations are available in 21 languages, including Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Czech, Estonian, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Slovak, Spanish, Turkish, and Ukrainian.
- Edubuntu's menu management has been rewritten in Python with the same dual GTK4/Qt6 backend approach as the installer, including translations, the Cockpit module, and the ability to disable the terminal keyboard shortcut for non-administrator users.
- Installer slideshow translations — the Ubuntu Desktop (Subiquity) installer slideshow is now localized in 21 languages.
- New wallpapers for the Resolute Raccoon cycle with educational themed photography.
- New default accent color: GNOME's accent color has been changed to teal (Yaru-prussiangreen) for a refreshed look, in keeping with the new default wallpaper.
- The Plymouth spinner has been updated to use symbolic links to maintain consistency.
- Foliate, a modern GTK4 e-book reader, is now included alongside Calibre.
- Paperboy, a news reader application based on GTK4/Libadwaita, is now included for secondary (ESO/Bachillerato) and higher (university) education.
- Arduino IDE and Raspberry Pi Imager are now included for secondary and higher education users.
- GChemPaint, a 2D chemical structure editor, is now included for secondary and higher education.
- GNOME Notes (Bijiben) returns, replacing Gnote as the default note-taking application.
- The Alphabetical App Grid extension for GNOME Shell has been updated to version 44.0 with support for GNOME 50.
- Several GTK 2 packages, including chemtool, have been removed, as GTK 2 is no longer supported in Debian upstream.
- Artha (offline thesaurus) has been removed as it is no longer maintained; online sources are recommended.
