GNOME introduces new features to Pipeline, Distroshelf, and other apps in its fold.

This week in GNOME

GNOME A few hours ago, a new entry was published about the week's news. This time, the list provided is what happened between June 20th and 27th, and it's not a very extensive list. Distroshelf has been included for the first time, which is basically a BoxBuddy—an interface for managing, primarily, Distrobox containers with different Linux-based operating systems—but for GNOME.

Otherwise, a seemingly quiet week. What follows is the list with news that has occurred in the last seven days.

This week in GNOME

  • DistroShelf now makes it even easier to run our favorite distribution.
    • Support for more terminals has been added, as well as the ability to use a custom terminal command.
    • Command logging has been added: You can now see every command DistroShelf has executed and copy it to the clipboard. This can be used to learn how the application interacts with DistroBox or to debug why a command failed.
    • A bug affecting the Assemble from File and Assemble from URL functionality has been fixed. You can now finally tell DistroShelf an .ini file containing a set of containers you want to create, along with any starter packages you need and any graphical applications you want to export and use from your desktop. Learn more about this feature in the DistroBox documentation.
    • Automatic host path resolution: When you select a file or folder from a Flatpak portal, the portal returns a dummy path that represents the ability to access the file, but not the absolute path you selected. They now use getfattr to resolve the dummy path to the actual host path you selected.
  • Pipeline version 2.6.0 has been released. This version adds more keyboard shortcuts to the video player, such as changing the volume or playback speed, as well as fast-forwarding or rewinding the video. Additionally, the sidebar can now be hidden when watching a video. Pipeline also displays a settings window upon first launch, allowing the user to import their YouTube or NewPipe subscriptions and informing them about the privacy implications of using Pipeline. This version also fixes some minor bugs and minor interface issues.
  • New release of Fractal 12.beta:
    • The security option to hide media previews in rooms now syncs between Matrix clients.
    • Added another security option (also synced) to hide avatars in invitations.
    • A room can be marked as unread from the context menu in the sidebar.
    • The user experience for rooms marked as tombstoned has been slightly tweaked. Instead of displaying a banner at the top of the history, it now replaces the composer at the bottom.
    • You can now see if a section in the sidebar has notifications or activity when it's collapsed.

And this has been all this week in GNOME.
