KDE Plasma has released its weekly update. Much of the work done in the last seven days has been bug fixes, which we don't include in this type of article to avoid making it too long. As for new features, most of them are user interface improvements that we'll start seeing in Plasma 6.7 and continue to see towards the end of the year with Plasma 6.8.
What follows is the list with those new featuresBut we can tell you now that there will be very few. This time there's neither a new features section nor a performance and technical section, and all the new features, except for the bug fixes (which anyone who wants to see will have to read the original article linked at the end of this post), are user interface tweaks.
Notable improvements to the KDE user interface
plasma 6.7
- It is now impossible to accidentally drag a window so far from the edge of the screen that it cannot be moved again.
- When you uninstall an app, it is now also removed from the history section of all launch widgets.
- Panels with auto-hide now support the "Switch desktops at the edge > Always on" option.
- The "All apps" view in the App Launcher now groups apps without distinguishing between uppercase and lowercase letters, so apps whose first letter is lowercase are no longer placed in a separate group.
- The operation of the option to create a virtual screen in the screen selection dialog has been clarified.
plasma 6.8
- The lock screen now fully respects the timeout configured by PAM in the underlying system, instead of adding its own mandatory delay. This means that, on systems with the delay set to 0, you can re-enter your password immediately after entering it incorrectly.
- The lock screen now notifies you when the "Slow keys" accessibility feature is enabled, in case you can't type your password correctly and don't know why.
- The Discover dialog that informs you that a Flatpak app will be replaced by another now indicates that data will be transferred automatically and also warns that favorites, shortcuts, and other elements from the old app will need to be recreated manually.
- The amount of visual flicker when Discover checks for updates has been reduced.
Coming soon to your KDE distribution
Plasma 6.6.6 is expected to arrive on July 7, 2026, Plasma 6.7 on June 16, and Frameworks 6.27 on June 12. While this is expected to change at some point, three Plasma releases are anticipated throughout at least 2026. Future plans involve releasing only two versions per year, a move that would particularly benefit Kubuntu.
