KDE continues to refine Plasma 6.4 while adding features ahead of the next major release.

KDE fixes bugs in Pasma 6.4

KDE launched on June 17 plasma 6.4, a new series that, as such, introduced many new features. After that, the project has to release six point updates, the first of which is available a week later. The point updates refine the major updates, and they arrive a few weeks apart, following the Fibonacci series. But we must also look to the future.

While the bugs in Plasma 6.4 are being fixed, KDE is also focusing on future features, which will be released with Plasma 6.5 in the second half of 2025. Just now, Nate Graham posted a list of what happened in the last seven days, which you have below — plus some points with bugs that we do not include in these articles.

New features coming to KDE Plasma 6.5.0

  • The Plasma Welcome Center app now shows you the many keyboard shortcuts available in Plasma, as well as what the Meta key is.

System Preferences in KDE

  • The RDP server built into Plasma now supports clipboard text synchronization between the client and server.

KDE User Interface Improvements

plasma 6.4.1

  • The “Highlight Windows” effect has been disabled by default in the Task Manager widget, for accessibility reasons explained in detail a few days ago.
  • The tone mapping feature in KWin has been improved to improve the appearance of some on-screen content when using HDR or EDR.
  • You can no longer open endless error messages in the Spectacle interface by repeating an action that triggers them and continuing to persist even when you probably shouldn't.

plasma 6.4.2

  • Spectacle no longer includes a semi-transparent ghostly version of its own menus in in-app screenshots when no delay is used.
  • The “New!” badges applied to newly installed apps displayed in the Kickoff app launcher are now more attractive and easier to read by using semantically correct colors from the active color scheme.

Kickoff

  • In the Kicker App Launcher widget, session or power actions can now be triggered using the Enter key in addition to the spacebar. All interface elements in that widget can now be triggered with Enter.
  • The appearance of the Night Light color tint on certain devices has been improved.

plasma 6.5.0

  • The notification that you missed notifications while Do Not Disturb mode was on now includes a button to view those missed notifications.
  • You can now copy QR codes from items on your clipboard, in addition to simply viewing and scanning them.

QR Code

  • The “Click here to change icon” button that appears in the Properties window and other QtWidgets-based applications now makes its purpose clearer.

Properties

  • The Networks widget now better reports what it’s doing in more possible states, such as “searching for wireless networks” or “I’ve been disabled.”

Network Widget in KDE

  • The Printers page in System Preferences now displays a clearer error message if your service has been disabled.

Printers page

  • On the Region & Language page of System Preferences, the error message indicating that language packs could not be installed now includes their names so that you can attempt to resolve the issue.

Framework 6.16

  • All scrollable views in QtQuick-based KDE software now have inertial scrolling when used with a touchpad. Note: touchpad only, not mouse wheel. There is no inertia with the wheel. Repeat after me: there is no inertia for mouse wheels.
  • The accessibility of the Common Properties dialog has been improved in several ways.
