KDE It doesn't slow down even in summer (in the northern hemisphere). Mid-year, many developers and projects slow down a bit, but KDE is made up of so many contributors that this doesn't seem to be too noticeable. One person who doesn't seem to have taken a break is Nate Graham, who has been publishing the weekly KDE news for years. He started on his blog reporting on changes to the "Productivity and Usability" initiative, continued under a different name when the initiative ended, and now publishes on the official KDE blog, separating the two between applications and the desktop.
The following is the list with the news that have taken place in the last week. As he notes, much of the work done has been to refine existing software, but that doesn't mean the list of new features is empty. Just as Graham filtered and separated desktop software from applications, we decided not to add a bugs section to keep this type of post too long. Those interested in learning more should visit the original article linked at the end of this post.
KDE User Interface Improvements
plasma 6.5
- The feedback sound when changing the volume in the Ocean sound theme has been reduced so that it doesn't sound as aggressive and doesn't distort at high volumes.
- Plasma now displays a system notification by default when connecting a device. This was primarily done for accessibility reasons, but it can also help with troubleshooting. Improvements have also been made to make these notifications less annoying, and they can be disabled to return to just sounds, or even without feedback if preferred.

- Notification about connecting a Logitech USB optical mouse.
- The Adwaita GTK theme is now displayed with its correct name on the App Style page in System Preferences, instead of appearing as “Default.”
- Several accessibility improvements have been made to the Flatpak Permissions page in System Preferences.
- On Plasma widget “About” pages, website information is now displayed in a more appropriate location, rather than next to the license information.
Framework 6.18
- All tasks registered with the Plasma job tracker now automatically disable sleep and screen lock; this is now the default and can be manually disabled.
- All colorful third-party app icons have been removed from the Breeze icon theme. This decision was made to respect the visual identity of the app developers and because there weren't enough resources to maintain these icons. Anyone can create a theme with these old icons and publish it on store.kde.org.
- The “New Folder” dialog, invoked from Plasma and many KDE applications, now wraps long paths across multiple lines to prevent the window from becoming excessively wide.
KDE Gear 25.12
- Konsole and Kate are now able to exchange Wayland activation tokens, so running
kate [ruta al archivo]in Konsole causes Kate's existing window to pop up. Currently, it only works with these two applications; a more general solution for other combinations is still needed.
Performance and technical in KDE
plasma 6.4.5
- Fixed an issue that could cause lag and stuttering in KWin when changing brightness on a laptop with an Intel Tiger Lake family CPU or later.
Framework 6.18
- Various performance and memory usage improvements have been made to Kirigami-based applications and System Preferences pages.
- Several speed and performance improvements have been implemented in the thumbnail system used in Plasma and KDE applications.
Coming soon to your KDE distribution
