KDE introduces printer improvements in a week where they have fixed many bugs

The release of Plasma 6.6 is approaching, and that shows in the work done by KDEThey continue to tease new features for that version, but the project has already fully focused on what will arrive later with Plasma 6.7. Well, that would be the case if they weren't also busy hunting down bugs in the desktop version that will arrive in the middle of next month.

plasma 6.7.0

  • A dedicated configuration interface has been added for setting up shared printers on Windows networks.

Notable improvements to the KDE interface

plasma 6.6.0

  • Shortcuts for switching desktops and showing Present Windows now use the Meta key by default for more consistent behavior across the system.
  • Plasma can now report on printer waste receptacle levels and notify when they are full.
  • KRunner's buttons have been rearranged to be consistent with other Plasma widgets, making the interface feel more familiar and coherent.

plasma 6.7.0

  • The Wi-Fi & Networking page in System Preferences now uses clearer Wi-Fi security labels, correctly showing support for WPA2 and WPA3 for both personal and business networks.
  • There are now keyboard shortcuts to switch between virtual desktops and open the Present Windows effect that use the Meta key, consistent with other global keyboard shortcuts.

Framework 6.23

  • The visual fidelity of thumbnail images in the open and save dialogs in Plasma and KDE applications has been improved.

KDE performance and technology highlights

plasma 6.6.0

  • Plasma's system monitoring infrastructure has received further fixes to improve OpenBSD support.

PackageKit 1.3.4

  • Support for DNF5 has been implemented in PackageKit, fixing a large number of issues relevant to those using Discover on Fedora-based systems.

Coming soon to your KDE desktop distribution

KDE Plasma 6.5.6 is expected to arrive on March 10th, and Frameworks 6.23 on February 13th. Plasma 6.6 is expected to arrive on February 17th, 2026. No official announcement has been made yet, so it is expected that there will continue to be three Plasma releases throughout at least 2026.
