KDE is working on a more useful Discover app within a week, with many interface tweaks.

KDE Plasma 6.6 brush

KDE He continues with his own thing. This week he arrived plasma 6.6.3But they've continued fixing bugs in preparation for what's to come. And what's coming are more bug fixes for the 6.6 series and the entire 6.7 series, which they'll deliver around the middle of the year, with many new features that they're introducing in weekly release notes like the one they published today.

It's also worth remembering that they decided some time ago to eliminate LTS versions and release only one more maintenance update (version .6) for each series. And that at some point, although it doesn't seem likely to be in 2026, they will start releasing only two series per year, like GNOME does. What follows is the list with the changes they have been working on this weekThey've fixed bugs, but we don't include those in this type of article anymore.

New features highlighted in KDE

plasma 6.7

  • For each additional time zone added to the Digital Clock widget, it now also shows how much that time zone is ahead or behind your own.

Time zones

  • If you disable the feature to invoke KRunner by typing on the desktop, then typing on the desktop invokes the "type advance," which allows you to select files by typing the first letter or two of their names.
  • You can now reverse the order of the items in the System Tray widget.

Notable improvements to the KDE interface

plasma 6.7

  • Discover now sorts app listings by number of reviews by default, providing much more relevant results when browsing rather than searching. The old rating-based sorting method is still available, of course.

Discover in KDE

  • Discover now filters out non-app items on its homepage, avoiding spirals of negativity where people left 1-star reviews saying they were broken (since they weren't executable apps, the "Launch" button didn't work), which caused them to climb higher in the list.
  • System Preferences and KWin now consistently use the word "pointer" to refer to the mouse or touchpad pointer.
  • The screen fading out is now faster than dimming, since fading out would mean that the system is ready to use again.
  • The active task in the tooltip of a grouped task now has bold text, to help distinguish it.
  • The Bluetooth device labels in the System Tray widget have been reorganized so that the battery level can always be seen regardless of the length of the device name.
  • The highlights on the Global Menu widget are now rounded consistently with the highlights on other menus.
  • You can now configure a single modifier key to focus a Plasma panel.
  • The Plasma panel settings window now only offers opacity adjustments if the active Plasma style supports it.

KDE performance and technology highlights

plasma 6.6.4

  • CPU and GPU load has been reduced for full-screen windows (also known as "direct scan-out") on screens that do not have the pointer over them.

plasma 6.7

  • KWin has added support for "3D LUTs", which reduces resource usage on GPUs that support hardware color pipelines.
  • The Networks widget now only retrieves network speed information while that information is visible.
  • Unnecessary OpenGL contexts for applications that do not use OpenGL are no longer created, reducing memory usage by 10-15 MB or more per application and also speeding up startup times.

Qt 6.10.3

  • A problem that broke HDR support when using the Vulkan renderer on certain hardware has been fixed.

Coming soon to your KDE distribution

Plasma 6.6.4 is expected to arrive on Tuesday, April 4, 2026. No official announcement has been made yet, so it's expected that there will continue to be three Plasma versions throughout at least 2026.
