Towards KDE Plasma 6.6

Plasma 6.5 is less than two weeks away in time, and it shows. KDE They're fixing a lot of bugs so that, when the time comes, the new desktop series will be in its best possible shape, but they've also fixed many other bugs that will be coming in Plasma 6.4.6. So part of this news about weekly releases is that they've been pushing to fix bugs, something that hasn't been as noticeable among the more important ones, as we'll mention later.

Significant improvements to the KDE user interface

plasma 6.5.0

  • The Sleep, Power Off, and Restart (among others) buttons in Kickoff can now be activated by using the Enter key in addition to the spacebar.

plasma 6.6.0

  • The Breeze icon theme now includes inverted versions of the “Send” icon (which normally looks like a small paper airplane flying to the right) and uses them in notifications when using a right-to-left language, such as Arabic or Hebrew.
  • Improved the randomness of wallpaper slideshows with random order.

Performance and technical highlights in KDE

plasma 6.4.5

  • Substantially reduced KWin CPU usage when playing video in full screen.

plasma 6.5.0

  • The speed with which Discover retrieves Flatpak information upon startup has been improved, making it faster and more responsive in many cases.
  • Information about the size of the folder selection dialog box is now stored in the state configuration file, not in the preferences configuration file. This helps prevent changes to the System Preferences configuration file when temporary states change, making it easier to version control configuration files.

As for bugs, the only remaining high priority bug has been kept and raised from 28 to 29 minutes in 15 minutes.

KDE Plasma 6.5 stable is expected to arrive on October 21, and Frameworks 6.20 on November 14. There is no confirmed date for Plasma 6.6.
