KDE slows down new features and focuses on bug fixes

KDE Plasma 6.3, bug fixes

During the weekends, Nate Graham posts, now on the official blog of KDE, the new features that are coming or will soon come to Plasma. The usual thing in normal weeks is to read about new features, with extensive sections with bug fixes, but this week has been a little different. The team has focused on fixing bugs, both in the plasma 6.3 already available as for 6.4 which will arrive in mid-2025.

Even so, it has given us the opportunity to publish one of our usual articles that echo the interesting changesYou have them all after the cut.

The only new thing in Plasma 6.4 that they mentioned is that you can control whether a window has a title bar and frame from the Task Manager context menu, as you can do with other window settings.

No title bar and frame from context menu

KDE Plasma 6.3.3 Interface Improvements

  • The Digital Clock widget now displays a nicer looking font selection dialog when customizing the clock text style; it has reverted to the old style after Qt 6 changed the default to something less suited to KDE's purposes.

Dialog Switcher in KDE System Settings

  • The way screens are presented has been improved to remove technical information where it is not needed to distinguish between screens.

Plasma 6.4 UI Improvements

  • Once again, it's possible to set the lock screen clock to disappear when the rest of the UI fades away, again offering the possibility of a screensaver-like experience.
  • Bluetooth devices no longer inappropriately display in the system tray popup when Bluetooth is disabled but the wireless adapter is still on, which is a state some devices may enter.
  • The order of search results in the Add Keyboard Layout dialog has been improved.

As for bugs, this week a total of 136 have been corrected.

KDE Plasma 6.3.3 is expected to arrive on Tuesday, March 11, Plasma 6.4 on June 17, and Frameworks 6.12 on March 14.
