The KDE edition of Ubuntu is one of the most popular within the community. It's often the choice for those looking for a balance between a good interface, good performance, and applications packed with advanced features. A few moments ago the launch has been made official de Kubuntu 25.04, although you'll already know many of the changes if you're following us this afternoon because the basis of Plucky Puffin is the same in every edition.
The most distinctive changes are in the graphical environment, its applications and the frameworks, and we already told you that Kubuntu 25.04 arrives with Plasma 6.3. What follows is the list with the most outstanding news.
Kubuntu 25.04 Highlights
- Launch of normal, provisional or cycle interim, which means it will be supported for 9 months, until January 2026.

It's worth noting that Kubuntu 25.04 continues to use the Calamares installer, based on the work initiated by the Lubuntu team. Among other things, installation on external drives, such as USB flash drives, is easier, and it also offers an option for OEM installations. something not so simple in the Flutter-based installer.
Installations from Kubuntu 24.10 will be activated in the coming days. Users interested in upgrading from 24.04 should go to Discover's settings and, in the Updates section, select "Scan for any version." Otherwise, it will only scan for LTS versions.
