Ubuntu 18.04 LTS systemd packages will be fully in sync with Debian

On February 11, Martin Pitt, the maintenance manager of the Systemd Ubuntu, announced that it had updated to the new version of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and Debian. The passing of SysV heat a Systemd that occurred in Ubuntu 15.04, brought a lot of controversy, but it seems that the latter is taking more and more shape.

For those who do not know what S isystemd, is nothing more than a system and session manager, that is, a boot manager that is responsible for starting our system (drivers, network connection, system services, log in ...). Well, the news that we bring you in this post is that it is expected that in Ubuntu version 18.04, the packages Systemd are fully in sync with Debian.

As we can read in the original post by Martin Pitt on his Google+ page, he himself has been in charge of updating the Systemd to the latest versions of Ubuntu and Debian. In addition, he informs us that he is currently working on the upstreammaster, but it's still a little green yet.

Over the past few months, Martin Pitt has been working hard to reduce all Ubuntu technical debt. As a result, he has managed to reduce the Debian delta to single patch, since until now there was a whole page of changes. Precisely for this reason, it is expected that in a couple of years, specifically for Ubuntu version 18.04 LTS, the Systemd are fully in sync with Debian.

Without a doubt this is some changes more surprising and novel that await Ubuntu in its next updates. If S packets are achievedystemd on Ubuntu they are in total sync with Debian, Explicit patches will no longer be needed for Ubuntu so that the Systemd works just like in Debian.

Surely Ubuntu 18.04 LTS will be one of the most anticipated releases and therefore we will always keep you informed from Ubunlog. We hope you found this news interesting and if you have any questions or queries in this regard, leave it in the comments section.

Basically it means that for 18.04, when a Systemd update for Debian comes out, it will be completely "compatible" with Ubuntu. This will lead to no need to work on explicit patches for Ubuntu. From my point of view it is perhaps a more practical advance for the developer than for the end user, since by then Systemd will be much more convergent. Although it is clear that Ubuntu users will get rid of many updates or "patches" to solve an error in, in this case, Systemd.
