When I used Ubuntu for the first time, both when displaying the login screen and when entering the operating system there were sounds. The first was like timpani, and the second a short melody. Those sounds disappeared, and I can't say if for better or worse. For those who prefer a more lively entry, good news, at least if the stable version ends with what we can already hear in the Daily Build de Ubuntu 24.10.
It's mid-August, and Ubuntu 24.10 Oracular Oriole is still a couple of months away. Some of what we see may never come, but most will. Today I decided to look at my installation — in a virtual machine — of the next version of the Canonical system and I saw that there was a partial update. Out of curiosity, I looked over the list and there was a change in login. After restarting I heard what you have below these lines, as long as your web browser supports it.
Ubuntu 24.10 will mark the 20th anniversary of the system
The previous audio is on the path /usr/share/sounds/Yaru/stereo with the name warty-startup-oga. In order to add it to this article I had to convert it to MP3, but that is a minor detail. He sound is just as you hear when you hit the play button.
Is it a positive change? Does it look bad? Totally subjective. It sounds strange to me right now, and more so because you can't see anything that accompanies the audio and it seems too long to me. It is possible that some more changes will be added in the future, or that this will all disappear in the coming weeks. The only certain thing is that Ubuntu 24.10 will arrive in less than two months, more or less animated, and with a more updated kernel than usual.
