Ubuntu 25.04 Plucky Puffin arrives with GNOME 48, Linux 6.14, and all these new features

Today is April 17, 2025, and a launch was scheduled for today and has already taken place. It is Ubuntu 25.04, codenamed, like the rest of the family, Plucky Puffin. We already know the 25.10 mascot, but there'll be time to talk about all that later. Now it's time to talk about a new stable version and the most notable new features that come with it.

Ubuntu, although we all think of it as an operating system with a GNOME desktop, is actually the basis for all official and unofficial flavors.   • Papers is the new document viewer (Evince is discontinued).

  • BeaconDB Location Service, a new location service.
  • Network Manager 1.52.
  • Generic installer for ARM64 architecture.
  • Support for NVIDIA Dynamic Boost on compatible laptops. This improves the gaming experience.
  • Support for Intel Arc GPU.
  • The startup sound is now disabled by default.

Remember that to update from 24.04, you must go to Software and Updates and, in the updates section, select "Search for any type"; by default, LTS updates only search for LTS updates.
