Today is April 17, 2025, and a launch was scheduled for today and has already taken place. It is Ubuntu 25.04, codenamed, like the rest of the family, Plucky Puffin. We already know the 25.10 mascot, but there'll be time to talk about all that later. Now it's time to talk about a new stable version and the most notable new features that come with it.
Ubuntu, although we all think of it as an operating system with a GNOME desktop, is actually the basis for all official and unofficial flavors. When we talk about Ubuntu 25.04, what we have in mind is the main edition with the aforementioned desktop, and what follows is the list with the most outstanding news which have arrived alongside the Plucky Puffin with GNOME desktop.

- Launch of normal, provisional or cycle interim, which means it will be supported for 9 months, until January 2026.

- Preserve Battery Health mode to help extend battery capacity.
- New windows are centered by default.
- Apps can now register global shortcuts.
- The visual effects of the on-screen keyboard have been improved.
- Nautilus file manager loads directories up to 5 times faster.
- The text editor adopts a simplified header bar with a menu for all options.
- The calendar event editor has been revamped, speed is improved, and more (expanded selection).
- The camera can now scan QR codes (enlarged selection).
- HDR support.
- Papers is the new document viewer (Evince is discontinued).
- Improvements to icons and theme.
- BeaconDB Location Service, a new location service.
- Network Manager 1.52.
- Generic installer for ARM64 architecture.
- Support for NVIDIA Dynamic Boost on compatible laptops. This improves the gaming experience.
- Support for Intel Arc GPU.
- The startup sound is now disabled by default.

The images can now be downloaded from the official server, or from the following button. The launch It will be 100% official when they publish it on social media and update their website.. In the next few hours, updates will be activated from the operating system itself. Remember that to update from 24.04, you must go to Software and Updates and, in the updates section, select "Search for any type"; by default, LTS updates only search for LTS updates.
