Ubuntu 25.10 now has a codename: Questing Quokka

Ubuntu 25.10

If nothing happens, and at the moment there is no news that makes us think otherwise, Ubuntu 25.04, of which a beta is now available, will arrive next Thursday, April 17th. As a general rule, everything related to the next version should take place after that date, but this time it has not been like that. Canonical has published on the social network X the code name of Ubuntu 25.10, and I have to admit that the animal is one of the friendliest I've ever seen as a mascot for the Canonical system.

The name will be Questing Quokka. It is an Australian marsupial from the macropod family (like kangaroos and wallabies), and is famous for its smiling face. It lives mainly on some islands in Western Australia, such as Rottnest Island. It is a small, furry, nocturnal, and herbivorous animal. It has become famous on social media because it seems to always be happy, hence its nickname. "the happiest animal in the world".

Ubuntu 25.10 Questing Quokka

About the name, it doesn't seem to have a translation into Spanish and there is more information about it on Wikipedia —which, although we know it may not be very reliable, has information on almost everything. The adjective "Questing" can have different interpretations, such as "who is seeking," "explorer," "on a mission," or "adventurer." To me, what makes the most sense is that it is an exploring or adventuring quokka, but we'll have to wait to see the wallpaper to get a better idea of what the official mascot will look like.

Days after the release of Plucky Puffin, the start of development for Ubuntu 25.10 will be announced. Shortly after, the first Daily Build will be released, and from there, we'll move on to October, when the next version is scheduled for release. Among its features, the main release will almost certainly use GNOME 49 and a kernel that will be around Linux 6.16 or Linux 6.17.
