It was the youngest for quite some time, but since the arrival of Unity and Cinnamon to the family, and the return of Edubuntu, we can now talk about a (quasi) veteran. Be that as it may, it's now available for download and installation. Ubuntu Budgie 25.04, the April 2025 release that, like the rest of the family, uses the codename Plucky Puffin. What's new? Not much, considering it maintains the same graphical environment as 24.10.
It is the first thing they deal with in the notes from this release: as Wayland It's not as good as it could be, so they've decided to stick with Budgie 10.9.2. budgie-desktop 10.10 will make the jump to Wayland, and if they don't do so completely, they do want to take firm steps in that direction. Plucky Puffin will continue to use Xorg, but it's possible to use Wayland sessions for field testing and to report bugs.

Updates from 24.10 onward will appear in the coming days. 24.04 users will need to wait for the next LTS or change the update channel from Ubuntu Budgie 25.04 settings.
