As you well know, Ubuntu version 14.04 is LTSIn other words, Long Support, a condition that the Ubuntu development team may well maintain but that other teams cannot maintain as well, not by will but due to a lack of volunteers. This must have been wanted to reflect the Lubuntu development team that has created a PPA repository so that its users can have a way to access packages considered as LTS without having to wait for them to be uploaded officially. These LTS packages are current versions of packages considered essential in the distribution and that have long support such as the Linux kernel, critical desktop packages such as PCmanfm or from programs as essential as Abiword.
This PPA repository has been created by Julien Lavergne and initially it will be a maintenance repository, since the idea is that in rapid periods of time, these packages become part of the official distribution repositories. At the moment, the objective of being important has already been achieved, since in addition to LTS packages, the new Lavergne repository has improvements in the artwork and in some bugs such as the famous nm-applet bug, a bug that did not allow us to access the network manager from the desktop. It seems that by incorporating this repository and updating the distribution, our Lubuntu fixes itself and this «problematic»Applet.
How to install the PPA repository?
For those of you who have already added a repository via terminal, the process will be easy, for those who are doing it for the first time, what we have to do is open a terminal (CONTROL + T) and write the following:
sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa: lubuntu-dev / staging
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
