seven days ago, GNOME published some weekly news in which there was nothing that took advantage of the donation from Sovereign Tech Fund. We knew that this week they were going to publish twice as much in this section, but what we didn't know was that practically all of their note was going to be changes made with this money. Not all, since there is a miscellaneous section and they have told us about updating an application in their circle.
In that miscellany section they tell us that there has been the first beta release of TypeScript definitions for GNOME, and that the initial @girs/gnome-shell types of TypeScript for GNOME Shell 46 have been released in NPM. What follows is the News list which took place in the days from March 29 to April 5, all of them, except for Junction, in the Sovereign Tech Fund section.
This week in GNOME
- Developer António has joined the team. He is a developer maintaining Nautilus (Files) and will be working on implementing the FileChooser portal with Nautilus.
- A draft has been opened to support printing in WebKitGTK using the Print portal. This allows GNOME Web (Epiphany) and other applications to support printing in their flatpak configuration. In the Print portal, a feature has also been added to allow applications to report which formats they support, in xdg-desktop-portal and xdg-desktop-portal-gnome.
- Finished the first iteration of work to make homed more secure when used in combination with desktop environments. And implemented homed "secure locking" in GDM and GNOME Shell, where the home directory is re-encrypted and the key is evicted from memory.
- Issues with Microsoft 365 (Office) on GNOME online accounts are being investigated.

- They have now gotten the xdg GlobalShortcuts portal working. There is still a lot of work with the integration and UI, but this is a great start and they hope to release it in GNOME 47.
- An InputEventManager has been added to Orca to consolidate logic across the codebase.
- The missing parts have been investigated to ensure that Key Rack has the same features as Seahorse.
- Added support for mirroring git repos to bst plugin.
- Junction 1.8 is now available. It is an application that opens automatically when a file or link is opened to allow us to choose which application opens it. In this version:
- Better vertical/mobile support.
- Better touch support, long press brings desktop actions.
- Fixed an issue with certain url-encoded characters.
- Using GNOME 46.
- The app is now verified on Flathub and has a “High Quality App Data” rating.
