GNOME tells us about this week's news, and DewDuct is being a success

This week in GNOME

It shouldn't be part of this news, or should it, but the fact is that it is. Since last November, in articles about news in GNOME we are forced to talk about Sovereigh Tech Fund, who invested 1 million dollars so that the project behind the desktop and applications that use Ubuntu, Fedora and Debian in their default versions could advance further and faster. The part of this news that concerns them is that they have not mentioned them, so either there is no related news or they have mixed it with the rest.

Already immersed in the news, something stands out that does not really attract attention: DewDuct has launched a new version, and its developer was surprised to see that it was so successful. This does not attract attention because it is an app to be able to watch YouTube without going to its official website that also relies on NewPipe, and we already know how Google is doing with ads and its blockers. What follows is the list with news they posted this week.

This week in GNOME

  • libadwaita now has AdwMultiLayoutView, which allows you to define multiple layouts and distribute the children among them. This allows you to completely rearrange the user interface (for example, convert the sidebar to a bottom bar, or a grid to a vertical box) by changing a single property, for example via a breakpoint setter.
  • Workbench is now available in the GNOME Nightly repository.
  • Newsflash can now play video attachments such as those from video podcasts or YouTube subscriptions. This is thanks to the clapper video player, which is now also available as a library.
  • Fretboard version 7.0 arrived this week, bringing more accurate prediction of chord names, note names when hovering over the toggles at the top of the neck, and a couple of miscellaneous fixes. small problems found since the last version.

Fretboard 7.0

  • Planify 4.8
    • Markdown support in task descriptions: Markdown can now be used to format text in task descriptions. This means you can add bold, italics, links, lists, and more, allowing for greater customization and clarity in your descriptions.
    • Markdown support in task titles: For those who want to make their titles more attractive and descriptive, with the new Markdown support in task titles, it is possible to use Markdown to highlight the important parts of the title, making Tasks are easier to identify at a glance.
    • Managing multiple projects and tasks can be challenging. That's why they have introduced a new view that allows us to see all the tasks and projects in one place. This feature gives us a global view of all our work, making it easier to plan and track our progress.
    • Task Expand/Collapse Functionality: For better visual management, tasks can now be expanded or collapsed. This functionality allows us to quickly show or hide task details, helping us focus on what is most important at any given moment without getting lost in the information.

Planify 4.8

  • Aurea is a simple banner previewer that reads metainfo files and displays them exactly as they will appear in Flathub banners, making it easy to publish apps.

  • DewDuct is having a lot of success, and this week it released v0.2.2:
    • Now it imports NewPipe subscriptions, but better.
    • Ability to manually subscribe to channels.
    • The subscription list is saved and reloaded automatically.
  • Turtle 0.9 has arrived and now supports flatpak packages better.

Turtle 0.9

  • Crosswords 0.3.13 has arrived with several keyboard behavior cleanups for the main game. In the editor, the auto-fill functionality has been moved to inline instead of a pop-up dialog. The auto-fill option has been improved.

And that's been it for this week at GNOME.
