It's the weekend and that, among other things, means that there are news in the two most used desktops in Linux. The first of them is GNOME, who for weeks has been taking advantage of the Sovereign Tech Fund donation to improve at greater speed and frequency components to which they were not paying much attention. This week has been an exception, but there are updates to applications, libraries and more.
There is a new app that has been introduced in the last seven days, but it has remained a third-party project. It is called SemantiK and it is a word game in which we have to find the secret word, similar to Cémantix or Semantle. You have this and others new arrivals in the list below.

- GLib has finally obtained the “approved” badge from OpenSSF Best Practices, which certifies that it follows a series of good development and security practices.
- Fragments has received a major update with new features and improvements:
- Added torrents can now be searched.
- In addition to magnet links, *.torrent links from the clipboard are now also recognized.
- Prevent the system from going to sleep when torrents are active.
- New torrents can be added via drag and drop.
- Automatic deletion of *.torrent files after adding them.
- Stop downloads when a metered network is detected.
- When controlling remote sessions, the local Transmission daemon is no longer started.
- Torrents automatically restart if the wrong location is set.
- Torrents can now also be added via the CLI
- The clipboard toasting notification is no longer displayed multiple times.
- Reduced CPU/resource consumption through adaptive polling interval.
- Improved user interface accessibility.
- Modernized user interface through the use of new Adwaita widgets.
- Update from Transmission 3.0.5 to 4.0.5.
- Pika Backup 0.7.2 has been released, correcting a bug in the scheduling page. It also resolves an issue with pre- and post-backup scripts failing to send desktop notifications.
- Blanket 0.7.0 arrived this week with a new interface that uses the latest GNOME designs. Besides:
- Inhibit sleep during playback.
- Pause playback if the system goes into power saving mode.
- MPRIS: Implement the Play, Pause and Stop methods in addition to PlayPause.
- MPRIS: Implementation of Next and Previous methods to navigate presets.
- Updated pink noise sample.
- Changed the sound of the train.
- Added preference to always start paused.
- SemantiK is a new word game in which you have to find a secret word, similar to Cémantix or Semantle.
- New stable version of Cambalache. Now use the Cambalache and GTK4 interface.
- Zrythm, the DAW based on GTK4 and Libadwaita, has released its latest beta, v1.1.0-beta.6.7.32, in preparation for the Release Candidate.
- Phosh 0.38 has arrived this week. It now better handles devices with rounded screen corners and supports count and progress indicators in lock screen launcher entries. On the composer side it now handles always on top and moving keybindings to the corner and the squeekboard on-screen keyboard has a lot of layout improvements. More details, this article.
