This week's article on GNOME, TWIG for friends, is a bit longer than the one from last week. For some reason that I don't know and I haven't stopped to investigate, seven days ago they only told us about three changes, and among them there was nothing related to the STF donation. This time, in addition to increasing the number of software that has received news, there is also information about work that has been done with that million dollars.
Whether due to popularity or any other reason, I think the highlight of the following list is the new version of Apostrophe, a Markdown editor that looks good especially in GNOME environments. What follows is the list with this and other news which took place from April 26 to May 3.
This week in GNOME
- With the STF donation, improvements have been implemented in the GNOME Control Center, Nautilus and a petition has been submitted to improve the GNOME Shell layer on small screens, among other things.
- Apostrophe 3.0 has arrived with improvements in practically all sections, highlighting the port to GTK4 and refined interface. Among other things, it includes:
- A new toolbar so you have to remember markdown syntax.
- A safer approach when opening and rendering files.
- Autoindentation and autocompletion of lists and keys.
- An improved Hemingway mode.
- Document statistics will also show statistics for the selected text.
- Workbenh 46.1 now available (Get more info).
- Railway version 2.5.0 has been released. Contains updates to the GNOME 46 runtime, as well as the addition of the PKP provider (and the removal of the INSA provider due to the API not being able to search for locations).
- Work has begun to port gnome-software to the new AdwDialog.
- Mingle is a new application that is used to play and use Google emojis, and it has arrived this week.
- The GStreamer GTK4 video sink has support for directly importing video frames as dmabufs on Linux when using GStreamer 1.24 / GTK 4.14, in addition to existing support for importing OpenGL textures or video frames into normal system memory.
- Planify 4.7 is now available:
- Advanced filtering function.
- Custom sorting in “Today” view.
- Instant task details.
- Efficient management of completed tasks.
- Attach files to your tasks.
- Celebrate achievements with sound.
- Bug fixes and performance improvements.
- Damask 0.2.2 is now available with these new features:
- Wallhaven: Correctly set aspect ratio in search query.
- Reset the update timer after a manual update.
- Wallhaven: Update wallpaper when preferences change.
- Update the wallpaper preview only when a preview is available.
- Set the active font by selecting the row in the font list.
- NASA: Rename row title to “NASA Astronomy.”
Sort the list of sources alphabetically. - Add an option to disable automatic updating.
- Improve support for the default “sourceless” application state.
- Correct the dimensions of the preview image.
- Remove the “manual” source (disable automatic updating instead).
- NASA: Replace the user-defined API key with a value supplied in the build.
- Unsplash: Replace the user-defined API key with a value supplied in the build.
- Wallhaven: Add explanatory text for API key field.
- EarthView: Photo feed update.
- Slideshow: Allow any type of image when filtering files.
- Gameky 0.6.4 has arrived with bug fixes and fully translated into Brazilian Portuguese.
- Turtle 0.8 arrived with faster graphics calculations, among other new features.
- New version of Mahjongg with full support for light and dark themes, among other new features.
- Fractak 7 has arrived with:
- Messages that are not sent can now be retried or discarded.
- Messages may be reported to server administrators for moderation.
- Room details are now considered complete, with the addition of room address management, permissions, and room updates.
- A new member menu appears when you click an avatar in the room history. It offers a quick way to perform many actions related to that person, including opening a direct chat with them and moderating them.
- The pills are clickable and allow you to go directly to a room or a member's profile.
And that's been it for this week at GNOME.
