It's the weekend again, and once again we bring articles about what's new in the most used desktops. First publish your “tidbits” GNOME, and has always done it in a more orderly way and without including a long list of small bugs. This is week 56 of TWIG, and the note It has been titled "Refined Documentation." Although, perhaps, what they have paid more attention to is something that we will see more on mobile devices.
La call app keeps getting better. There are probably many, including myself after PineTab, who remain skeptical about mobile versions of Linux, but the various projects, like GNOME, are still working on them, at least on the versions for phones. The calling app has improved a lot, and now there is no lag at all when scrolling through the call history.
This week in GNOME
- Tracker, the file system indexer, has greatly improved performance in Tracker Miners. Directory names should be processed in a few seconds even when there are many indexed files.
- The Contacts app can now import and export contacts in the vCard (.vcf) format. It was what the community asked for the most, and here it is.
- Calls, or calls in Spanish, now allows you to send SMS from the call history, starts faster and moves better when scrolling through long histories of more than 1000 entries, which will help especially on devices with discrete hardware.
- New version of GJS for GNOME 43.beta:
- It brings in the Firefox 102 JS engine, which provides APIs like Object.hasOwn() and Intl.supportedValuesOf(). It is now possible to use GObject.BindingGroup.prototype.bind_full() with JS functions. Previously this method was unusable in JS.
- Gio.FileEnumerator is now iterable, both synchronously (with the for-of or array spread syntax) and asynchronously (with for-await-of).
- Updates to the documentation and examples in the repository.
- The file shredder app enters the GNOME circle.
- NewsFlash now supports basic code block highlighting.
- Adwaita Manager has been redesigned (Nota: Adwaita Manager is NOT an official GNOME application, the name will change in v0.2.0). Adwaita Manager is a tool that allows you to customize your libadwaita applications and adw-gtk3 theme with a simple user interface as well as generating the Material You palette from the wallpaper. The name was changed to Gradience to remove any confusion. Adwaita Manager has been migrated to Adwaita Manager Team, allowing new maintainers to be added.
- Documentation updates.
- Just Perfection, the extension for GNOME Shell, has reached v21, with:
- OSD position.
- Icon size, window size preview and Alt Tab icon size preview.
- Dash separator visibility.
- mirror size
- Screenshot button visibility in window menu
And that's been it for this week at GNOME.
