How to add multimedia support in Ubuntu 13.10 and its flavors

Ubuntu 13.10

If you want to play video and audio files in Ubuntu 13.10 and its different flavors without any complication, then you have to install the bracket for restricted multimedia formats.

Although this support can be installed during the distribution installation process, if you did not do it then you will have to do it later. To do this, just open a console and enter the following command:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

For Kubuntu it would be:

sudo apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras

For Xubuntu:

sudo apt-get install xubuntu-restricted-extras

And for Lubuntu:

sudo apt-get install lubuntu-restricted-extras

Once this is done, the only thing that remains is to install the support for play DVDs and images of these. To do this, run:

sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

And that's it. Now you can play most of the multimedia files stored on your hard drive.
