How to get the latest Kdenlive version on Ubuntu

Kdenlive

Kdenlive is one of the most famous video editors of the Gnu / Linux world. It is one of the tools that come standard in the KDE desktop but also it can be installed even if you have another desktop like Unity from Ubuntu.

Either through Kubuntu or through any other distribution, the truth is that Kdenlive usually takes time to update in official repositories, something that makes many delay in receiving the latest news of the tool or the correction of bugs that the program still has.

This problem can be solved using any of the three repositories that the Kdenlive project has enabled and that we can use in our Ubuntu. Next we give you the address of the three repositories and their functions.

  • ppa: kdenlive / kdenlive-master. This is the development repository. In it we will find the main novelties what the project has but how it works is unstable and it has not been tested so it could cause serious problems in the operation of the program.
  • ppa: kdenlive / kdenlive-testing. This repository has a misleading name because although it has the name of testing, in this repository you can find the latest news tested and whose operation has been frozen, so that after several weeks frozen it will go to the stable repository.
  • ppa: kdenlive / kdenlive-stable. This repository has the latest stable version of kdenlive, a repository where we will find the latest from Kdenlive It does not have to be the same as we have in Ubuntu or Kubuntu, it is more likely the version of the Ubuntu repository is older.

How to install these Kdenlive repositories on Ubuntu

Any of these repositories can be used as we said at the beginning. To do this, we just have to open a terminal and write the following:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kdenlive/kdenlive-XXX

Where the "XXX" we will put the name of the repository that we want to install. The most normal thing is to put "stable" but if you prefer or have a testing system, you can choose other repositories such as testing or master, which one do you prefer?

hello1 how can I translate it into Spanish? is there any language pack?

     leo said

You have to install the kde language packs:
    sudo apt install language-pack-kde-en * language-pack-kde-en * kde-l10n-en
And voila, these language packs work for all the kde applications you install.

Hello, I had kdenlive installed but not the latest version, I did a "shampoo" and now I can't install any version, it tells me that dependencies are missing or that they are in conflict.

In console type: "sudo apt install -f" (without the quotes of course) if you are missing packages these will be downloaded and installed. If it doesn't work, try to delete: sudo apt remove –purge kdenlive then reinstall it sudo apt install kdenlive sometimes works.

in sudo apt remove –purge kdenlive the purge has two - in front !!!!

I have a problem since I went to the last update of Ubuntu Studio, the program at startup freezes and then automatically closes, I have tried everything previously said but still I can not solve the problem, therefore my question is the next, what steps should be more apart from those already mentioned or in any case can you recommend an editor with similar characteristics?
