One of the most famous characters in the history of video games is Mario, the famous plumber who has to rescue his princess through many and varied dangers. On Linux, the mascot is called Tux and it appears in many application clones, such as Tux Paint or TuxGuitar. If we connect the dots and join Super Mario with Tux, the result is Super Tux, a game of 2D platforms very similar to the original but with the obligatory image of the penguin.
There are two versions of SuperTux. There is the officially stable version and then we have SuperTux 2, which is as Development Version and that was never finalized. It is very easy to install both versions, since they are both in the Ubuntu official repositories. Here are the steps to follow to install and play SuperTux to play in those moments that you want to hang out.
How to install SuperTux
Being in the official repositories, it is enough that we go to the Software Center and let's look for SuperTux. As you can see, both SuperTux and the version that remained in development due to unstable, SuperTux 2. We just have to click on a version and then click on Install.
If you prefer to use the terminal, you will have to write the following:
sudo apt-get install supertux
for official SuperTux and
sudo apt-get install supertux2
for the unstable version, which, on the other hand, seems to be more worthwhile than the official version, but taking into account that it can fail and can spoil a game.
Playing SuperTux
Once we start one of the two versions, we can move the mouse to select the desired option. By default, the controls are as follows:
- Left and right act as such.
- Down he crouches.
- Space bar to jump.
- Left control for action.
- Delete looks left.
- Page down look right.
- Home look up.
- End look down.
- Escape for menu.
- Letter "P" to pause the game.
When you play, you will see that the scenario does not look much like Super Mario Bros., but it is necessary so that they are not sued for plagiarism. Instead of mushrooms, Tux catches snowballs to get bigger and other kinds of powers, but the essence is the same. And the good thing about being a game with an old image, although it has much better graphics than the originals, is that it does not require a large computer to work.
