In the last hours a new version of LibreOffice, LibreOffice 6.1, has been released. A version that introduces major changes to the office suite, despite the fact that version 6 of this suite was released not long ago. LibreOffice 6.1 introduces changes in almost all the programs that make up the office suite and has even created a customization for Windows environments.
Libreoffice 6.1 introduces the CoLibre icon collection for Windows environments, a collection of icons different from the one that comes for Ubuntu but important if we want Windows users to start using Free Software instead of Proprietary Software. In LibreOffice 6.1 Writer the paging operation for the Epub format has been improved as well as its export. Reading .Xls files has also been improved in this version and LibreOffice 6.1 Base changes its main engine to a Firebird-based engine, which makes the program more powerful than before without losing its compatibility with Access databases. The integration with non-Gnome desktops has also been improved, being more compatible with desktops like Plasma. The correction of bugs and problems is also present in this version of LibreOffice. The rest of the changes and corrections you can know in the release notes.
If we want to install LibreOffice 6.1 on Ubuntu, we have to do it through the snap package. This package already has this version in its Candidate channel, so to install this version we just have to open the terminal and write the following:
sudo snap install libreoffice --candidate
This will begin the installation of LibreOffice 6.1. If we do a minimal installation of Ubuntu and we have LibreOffice 6 through the snap package, It is best to first uninstall LibreOffice and then do a one-time installation of LibreOffice 6.1. It can be tedious, but Ubuntu will work better than having two different versions of LibreOffice and it will also save space.

I already installed it… ?
Thanks, Joaquin.
Installed and working perfectly (in Catalan).
Installing it by snap, I assume it won't update via Ubuntu Update Manager, right?
All the best
I've tried it and it works like a charm.
By the way I echo something that has surprised me a lot, Guadalinex now happens to be driven by users and not by the Junta de Andalucía

It works perfectly, and is already added in the Ubuntu software store.
You don't need to open the terminal to install it. Although for now I do not see big differences between the new version and the previous one. But that's another issue
Hello:
It works perfect. But could you tell me if it is possible to install another language in the same way and help via snap?
Thank you
I have seen that there are other languages on the Libreoffice page, in my case I default to the Spanish language on a laptop and the English language on another laptop.
Download via torrent the package (I don't remember snap or deb) and the separate language file via torrent. Although then I gave up and installed it from the Ubuntu soft center
Look at the configuration or preference, maybe it gives you another option or you can change the language or install another one.
Hello good !!! good year to all, I share with you, linux the best of the three operating systems, 1) ubuntu server with desktop (your choice) and your favorite applications, 2) OSX (Sierra or higher) excellent operating system, fast, stable, the console It is similar to Linux but a little more complex, and 3) haha, dear windows, where everything exists but the most unstable. what a paradox. greetings to all. Mariano.
Installed and working. Thank you.
In lubuntu 18.04 the 'snap' command did not work, I replaced it with "apt-get" ... and it installed everything in a few moments, everything up to the DataBase that previously had to be brought aside.
What a good job they have done!
Thank you.
In Ubuntu 18.04 the whole package was installed with this:
sudo apt-get install libreoffice
