Although we will not yet have the famous Unity 8 in the next LTS version of Ubuntu, the truth is that through the next version we can install and run Unity 8 as if it were the default desktop and in a totally stable way. However installing Unity 8 not like typical Gnu / Linux and / or Ubuntu installations but we will have to use the installation commands of the LXC containers. This technology is new for the use of the Desktop but quite well known in cloud solutions and other platforms.
To be able to install Unity 8 we will need to have Ubuntu 16.04 installed, since in previous versions the installation is not as functional as we can see in the video.
Unity 8 Installation
Once we have version 16.04 (something that will take approximately 21 days to happen), we open a terminal and type the following:
sudo apt-get install unity8-lxc
Once we have installed it, we have to run the installer, for this we write the following:
sudo unity8-lxc-setup
After executing this command, we must pay attention to the important messages that the terminal will issue in case there is a problem with the installation. When it's done, like many other desktops, we need to restart the operating system for the setup to start working fine. Once we have restarted the system and entered the login password we can see new features and functions in Unity 8. A desktop that will have two versions or modes. A Desktop mode which still keeps the dock and Unity 7 working and a mobile mode which turns out to be closer to the mobile version where we can move the windows by clicking on the right side of the screen.
Personally I find this new version of Unity different, I also see it as something stable, something that many are waiting for but I don't know if users will use mobile mode a lot What do you think?
