A little over a year ago we talked to you in this blog about a very interesting distribution for computers with few resources that was based on Ubuntu LTS. The distribution was called Linux Lite y a few weeks ago we were able to see the launch of a new and improved version, Linux Lite 2.2.
This new version of one of the most interesting distributions for teams with few resources brings many new features such as the inclusion of Steam. Also Linux Lite 2.2 contains more software such as Mozilla Firefox, Libreoffice, Gparted, Xfce 4.10, Wisker Menu and Mozilla Thunderbird.
Linux Lite 2.2 is still based on an LTS version of Ubuntu, in this case Ubuntu 14.04.01, the latest stable version with long Ubuntu support. It continues to use the official Ubuntu repositories, but like many other distributions, Linux Lite 2.2 has its own or at least customized package center. Linux Lite 2.2 inherits many of the good things of Ubuntu LTS such as UEFI support and of course the versions for 32 and 64 bits something that few distributions for computers with few resources have.
Linux Lite 2.2 has built-in Steam for entertainment
A year ago the hardware requirements of Linux Lite were quite modest, but that was because it was based on Ubuntu 12.04, however after using Ubuntu 14.04.01, the requirements of Linux Lite have increased, being easier than a computer that use Linux Lite can support Steam but more difficult to work well on a computer with a few years and limited hardware. It is also interesting since all this begins to mean that we have overcome the basic hardware of systems such as Windows XP and you will agree with me that this means a great step in the world of personal computing.
Personally, I think there are more interesting distributions for modest teams, although the truth is important to know that there are already distributions for teams with few resources that handle well or can handle the subject of video games. Hopefully the next version of Linu Lite will improve the results of Linux Lite 2.2, they are not easy but it is not an impossible task either.
