The new version of Lubuntu 24.04 LTS, codenamed "Noble Numbat", has been released recently and this release brings with it a series of changes and improvements that are not only part of what Ubuntu 24.04 LTS offers, but also various improvements specific to this flavor of Ubuntu were implemented.
For those who still don't know about Lubuntu, let me tell you that this is one of the variants (known as flavors) Ubuntu officials that uses the LXQt desktop environment, which is characterized by being lightweight and offering a simple, modern and powerful experience on computers with limited resources.
Main new features of Lubuntu 24.04 LTS “Noble Numbat”

On the other hand, we can find in Lubuntu 24.04 LTS "Noble Numbat" one of the most anticipated features by users, the OEM installation mode, which has returned to Lubuntu 24.04. This option allows hardware manufacturers or those who wish to give a computer to another person to prepare the system for final shipment. The end user will be able to set up their own account when turning on the device for the first time.
As for the main system, Lubuntu 24.04 includes some new applications in your default installationas the Blue Man Group for Bluetooth device management, a configuration editor for SDDM (the login manager), the Lubuntu Update tool for managing system updates, Redshift for a more convenient night mode, and the Picom configuration utility for adding transparency and shadow effects to windows.
Also, in Lubuntu 24.04 prepared new wallpaper, updated login screen and renewed icon for the Lubuntu Handbook, plus for those looking for more customization options, the `lxqt-themes-extra` package offers two new themes for LXQt: win-eleven-dark and sombre-et-rond.
Lubuntu 24.04 LTS tbrings with it a series of bug fixes and improvements in the general performance of the system since the desktop environment was updated to version 1.4 of LXQt based on Qt 5.15, the introduction of "lxqt-menu-data" to replace "lxmenu-data", among other things:
PCManFM-Qt
- Allows you to easily specify the default terminal command you want to use.
- The split view state is remembered when restoring tabs from the last session.
- Added SVG icon for PCManFM-Qt to improve visual appeal.
- Password and anonymity settings in the mount dialog are now remembered
QTerminal
- Now supports an audible bell as an option to provide audible information for various endpoint events.
- It features a Putty-style mouse button swapping feature for more intuitive mouse interaction.
- Added new Falcon color scheme
LXQt Panel
- Added the option to view the output of custom commands as an image and resolved issues related to urgent check/delete and cycling windows with the mouse wheel in the LXQt Panel.
