NuTyX: A lightweight distribution based on Linux From Scratch
With regard to GNU/Linux Distributions or Distros, we can say, with great confidence, that there are thousands working today. But, also that most of these tend to be derivatives or respins of some others, which are usually considered Mother Distributions. Therefore, when it comes to news about releases or updates, those related to GNU/Linux Distros created from scratch are rarely reviewed or noticed, such as the case of the GNU/Linux distro “NuTyX”.
And since we recently mentioned such a Distribution in a previous post related to latest releases december 2022, today we will dedicate this small entry to learn more in depth. Also taking advantage of the fact that the first of this month of March 2023, they have released a new update called NuTyX 23.02.1.

What is NutyX?
A quick scan of your Official website, makes it clear to us that NuTyX is a lightweight distribution of French origin, which is based on Linux From Scratch (LFS). However, it has many important things to highlight, among which the following can be mentioned:
- All of their ISOS include the System Initiation (Boot) SystemV and Systemd.
- It includes a custom package manager called "Letters" (Cards, in English).
- It is a highly versatile and minimalist rolling release distribution designed for intermediate and advanced Linux users.
- It has been generated using the techniques of Linux From Scratch (Linux from Scratch) and Beyond Linux From Scratch (Beyond Linux from Scratch).
- It has a good documentation, a growing User Community and a good team of developers involved.
- It allows the installation of both individual binary packages and a group of related binary packages, that is, from a simple application to complete or complex software, such as KDE Plasma or XFCE. And also, by compiling source packages from various repositories of the "ports" type.
- only offers the download 64 bit version, but ISOs usually come ready with multiple useful and well-known Desktop Environments (DM) and Window Managers (WM). Among which we can mention the following: Base CLI, XOrg, JWM, CDE, OpenBox, Enlightenment, LXDE, LXQt, XFCE, Mate, Cinnamon, Budgie, Plasma and GNOME. And, in sizes that can vary from 736 MB to 2 GB.

According to official launch announcement, its new version 23.02.1 includes, among the many updated packages and programs, the following:

- XFCE 4.18.1, MATE 1.26.0, GNOME 43.3, and KDE Plasma 5.27.1 with Framework 5.103.0,
- Firefox 110.0, Chromium 109.0.5414.74, Epiphany 43.1,
- Telegram Desktop 4.6.2, Thunderbird 102.8.1, Scribus 1.5.8, Libreoffice 7.5.1.1, Gimp 2.10.34,
- And the Kernels: 4.14.307, 4.19.274, 5.4.233, 5.10.170, 5.15.96, 6.1.14 and 6.2.1.
Summary
In summary, "NutyX" is an interesting and useful Distro GNU/Linux LFS and Rolling Release with its own package manager and philosophy of use, which is worth knowing and trying.
