In this article we want to show you a way with which you can organize your applications to your liking. These are the well-known "appfolders". And is that GNOME allows us to group the applications we want into groups, according to our own criteria.

By default, we can see two groupings of applications: «Utilities» and «Various». Therefore, we want to show you how we can create new app folders to be able to organize them as we want through the application GNOME AppfolderManager.

The application is very easy to use. In the left part of the program, we can can bring to life, delete o edit new application folders, while on the right side, we can see the applications contained in these folders. It's that simple, as we can see in the following image:

Installing GNOME Appfolder Manager

To install this application, we can do it in two ways.

1.- From the source code

GNOME Appfolder Manager is Free Software under the GPLv2 license. Therefore we can download the source of the program from your official GitHub repository, or directly from here. Once downloaded, we will have the project locally on our PC.

Once we have unzipped the .tar.gz that we have downloaded, we will see that we have a directory called /gnome-appfolders-manager-0.3.0 / which will contain the entire source of the program. The next step is to run the following in Terminal:

cd directory / from / download / gnome-appfolders-manager-0.3.0

Ls -l

As you will see, the files and directories contained in the aforementioned directory will be listed. If you look at it, there is a program written Python (which is the language in which the program is written) called setup.py. Well, this is the program that we have to run to install GNOME Appfolder Manager. Note that in order to run this program we will need Python installed on our PC. To execute this program, we just have to execute:

python2 setup.py install

Well, once the process that we will have launched when executing the previous program finishes, we will have GNOME Appfolder Manager installed.

2.- From the Webupd8 repositories

Thanks to the guys at Webupd8, we have the entire application in your repository. To install it, perhaps in a simpler way than the one mentioned above, just run:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: nilarimogard / webupd8
sudo apt update
sudo apt install gnome-appfolders-manager

By following any of the above paths, we should be able to install GNOME Appfolder without any problems. Easy, right? We hope that from now on you will be able to group and classify your favorite applications as you wish 
