Plasma 5.17.3 arrives to continue correcting the bugs of this series

plasma 5.17.3

KDE continues to meet its schedule like Swiss watch. What I had scheduled for today, November 12, was the launch of plasma 5.17.3, the third maintenance release in this series, and it's here. This launch has occurred two weeks after the v5.17.2 of the graphical environment and not just one, so more bugs found in the two minor Plasma updates released in October have been fixed. As a maintenance release, no new features are included.

As usual, the KDE Community has published two articles about this release, one in which talks about his availability and another in which they include the full list of news, 43 changes in total. The list of news that we are going to include in this article is not the official one, but it was advanced in the weekly articles that write about everything new that is to come to KDE. You have it after the cut.

Plasma 5.17.3 highlights

  • GTK2 applications like GIMP and Inkscape no longer have a mismatched background color under certain circumstances.
  • Discover's "Launch" buttons now work in openSUSE Leap and Tumbleweed.
  • Discover no longer displays a large, empty area where screenshots should be for apps whose metadata specifies invalid screenshots.
  • Scrolling in Discover no longer chops when used in Wayland.
  • Clicking the rightmost pixel in a maximized or right-tiled Firefox window once again interacts with the scroll bar as expected.
  • When using the weather widget in a narrow vertical panel with the temperature display shown below the icon, its label is no longer cut off on the left and right sides.
  • When using Icon View in System Settings, the pages for SDDM and KWallet no longer show an ugly gray icon in the corner of the sidebar icon.
  • The icon swing animation that we see when launching applications is seen again for people who use the default size of the cursor.

On Discover in the next few hours

At the time of writing, the release is official, but it will still be a few hours or a day before the new packages appear in Discover. Until then we will not be able to know if they have corrected the annoying failure that many of us are experiencing that causes them to appear problems waking up the computer after a suspension; In the best of cases, the image is not perfect and in the worst case, you have to pull the terminal or restart the computer to be able to use the computer again. The fault could be fixed with a new version of plasma or with the Framework 5.64 which has been released this Sunday.

The next update will already be a Plasma 5.17.4 that will officially arrive on December 3.
