In the next article we are going to take a look at Qimgv. It's about a image viewer with a small editor and video support that we will find available for Gnu / Linux and Windows. It is a Qt5 image viewer with a simple and fast user interface that looks to be easy for users to use.
This software is useful for basic image editing. The idea of this software is to offer users a neat, simple and easy to use user interface. It will allow us to see elements ui only when it is necessary for us. We will find a drop-down panel with thumbnails, as well as a folder view (accessible by clicking Intro).
Among the configuration options that we will find in qimgv There is the possibility of reproducing sounds, opening in fullscrean mode, size of the thumbnails or their position, modifying the image width in relation to the window or the expansion of small images.
If we are interested, we will be able to modify the interface color scheme or deactivate transparencies. We can also change the scaling algorithm, the zoom resolution levels or enable the cache. Another option available will be to open a context menu by right mouse click on the image that we have open.

- The program offers us the option of folder view. If we go to the upper area of the window, we will find the controls to change the directory and the thumbnail images of the directory. With the mouse wheel or the left and right arrows on the keyboard we will be able to scroll through the different images.
- The option of video playback, we will find it through libmpv, including webm support.
- We will have the ability to run shell scripts.
- We will find at our disposal multiple keyboard shortcuts configurable to work more comfortably. You can see all keyboard shortcuts defaults on their GitHub page. We can also access these and configure them by going to the menu Settings> Controls.
- We will have the possibility to extend the support Raw via Qtraw.
- APNG is supported through third party qt plugin. Gnu / Linux users, we will need to install the latest QtApng by Skycoder42.
Install Qimgv on Ubuntu 18.04
In order to install this program, the software developer maintains a PPA repository It contains the latest packages for Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 19.04, and Linux Mint 19.x. To get hold of it, all you have to do is open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and write the following command in it to add the PPA first:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:easymodo/qimgv
After updating the list of software available from the repositories, we can now install Qimgv via Synaptic package manager or by running the following command in the same terminal:
sudo apt install qimgv
Once installed, we will only have to call the program from the terminal or search for the program on our computer to start using it.
Uninstall Qimgv
To eliminate the PPA we can open the option Software and updates → Other software or run this command in a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T):
sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:easymodo/qimgv
If we are interested remove image viewer program, we will simply execute the command in the same terminal:
sudo apt remove qimgv
