Tomb Raider finally comes to Ubuntu

tomb raider

Whenever I see something related to Lara Croft, I remember that first PC game in which a very good-looking protagonist appeared, wearing shorts and her two pistols. Much has changed since the 90s, but where it is most noticeable is in the graphics and that now we can also play the latest title of Tomb Rider from any computer running Linux and that meets the minimum requirements.

The news was given by Feral Interactive from their Twitter account and, as you can see in the following video, it seems that the game is worth it. For those who do not know, Tomb Raider games are usually adventure games that combine third-person shooting (where we see Lara up close) and some riddles or puzzles that will make us go crazy at some points to find the solution and continue moving forward.

Lara Croft comes to your PC with Linux

Looking for a Tomb Raider Linux release date? "You're going to freak out": Lara is coming to Linux… today!

Minimum requirements

  • Tomb Raider for Linux uses OpenGL and should work with most Nvidia graphics cards that have at least 1GB of memory and use Nvidia's proprietary Linux driver binaries.
  • Intel i3 (or AMD FX-6300).
  • 4GB of RAM.
  • Users of an AMD GPU need a card with a minimum of 2GB. The game works with the MESA 11.2 driver.

For optimal performance, Feral Interactive recommends the following:

  • Intel i5
  • 8GB RAM.
  • NVIDIA GeForce 760 GPUs
  • 3GB of graphics memory.

Tomb Raider is now available for Linux for a price of € 19.99, which does not seem like much if we take into account the price for which these types of games are sold in their version for consoles. A DLC package is available that «enhances Lara's formative first adventure with all single player DLCs as well as the online experience»Which is priced at € 18.99.

I just wanted to give a piece of information, the game that they have put for Linux is not the last of Tomb Raider (which is called Rise of the Tomb Raider), if not the previous one.

In any case, it is still great news that we have more and more games for Linux and more if they are of this level 😀

It's nice to be able to replay titles of this caliber on Linux. Personally I have no problems with performance, but I do admit that the downturn with respect to the Windows version is considerable. I hope they polish that issue a little more, since Feral in other games has managed to walk close to the native version.

Another thing, I already had the game for a long time, but I think I'm going to get some DLC, since these guys deserve it.
