Ubuntu 16.04 Beta 2 what's new?

Ubuntu 16.04

Finally the second beta of Ubuntu 16.04 has been released, a beta that will be the prelude to Ubuntu 16.04 so many are paying attention and are testing it to see that it brings back the new version of Ubuntu. If many of you expect big changes in distribution, you are wrong.

In essence drastic changes are few and far between, but the changes that are not appreciated are many and very large, all related to the correction of bugs and problems that the distribution had both on its desktop and in the kernel. All this has been corrected but we will also find the possibility of being able to change the Unity bar and insert it at the bottom of the screen.

Users' prayers have finally been heard! We will also find the new Ubuntu Software CenterIn this case, as many of you know, we have chosen to use the Gnome Software Center, a great tool although personally I would have preferred to bet on Synaptic.

Ubuntu 16.04 will bring historical requests how to modify the Unity dock

It has also been incorporated the Gnome Desk Calendar, something that the most productive users will appreciate a lot and for those who do a lot of installations, know that Ubuntu's USB tool has improved a bit. These could be the big changes that we can see in Ubuntu 16.04 but there are others below such as the introduction of Kernel 4.4, the elimination of Brasero or Empathy and the update of common software such as Firefox, LibreOffice, Nautilus or Shotwell among others.

The main function of Ubuntu 16.04 I think is being fulfilled since it is polishing a lot of bugs and they are also being fulfilled almost historic requests like Unity dock, but there is still a lot to do and Ubuntu 16.04 may have more than one hidden surprise, for which, it is best to choose to install any of the Ubuntu images that appear in this link.

I use the packet tracer, in 14.04 version 6.2 was installed without problems and its launcher was created, it appears that the appearance of this program was adapted by installing some plugins. On the other hand, 6.3 did not suffer the same fate. I hope that in this version if it is modified.

I think Ubuntu 16.04 should come with the development sdk pre-installed for production.

If I install this version when the final version comes out, will I only update and it will not be necessary to format the pc?

Will the final version come with Unity 8 or will it continue with the same version?

Hello Francisco. Everything indicates that it will arrive with Unity 8, or that is what is expected. The fact is that I have tried it and I see it all black, something that seems extended. It is a known bug that they will try to fix. I imagine that they will only include Unity 8 if they make it work without problems, but the plans are for it to arrive with Unity 8.

      A greeting.

I would have liked the interface to come as the concept that goes around until I'm excited, that a tool like minstick is installed, and that the screen does not turn gray with several processes at the same time. In short, it is like linux mint

Honestly, I was a bit disappointed that unity 8 continues to take, but Unity 7.4, brings more news than I read, not only some new apps and the change of position of the dock (which I do not like by the way), they have also incorporated support to native calendar (without gnome-calendar), so you can synchronize your google calendar in your accounts and manage it from the desktop (where the time allows you to see the events, delete and add), also the nautilus (3.18) is certainly not the last, but the last one is less ugly ... which incorporates functions such as direct google drive, formatting in the style of "winodws" from your file manager and other functions. Metacity and Compiz (although these projects already update very little) are in their latest versions with better compatibility with GTK3.

On the other hand I was surprised is that it improved its compatibility of menu and themes with KDE, QT and GTK (some programs that did not integrate well, already do) ... I also saw that Ubuntu is making an effort to update its list of packages and maintain it «more current »(not in versions 8 or 10 months out of date, although they are still about 5 to 6 months out of date); for example Ubuntu 16.10 are already working on Kenel 4.7 (very recent, but they plan to incorporate it); Plasma and Gnome 3 have much more up-to-date packages (you don't require PPA in the latest daily and hardly require in xelial). Unlike previous versions, they are making an effort to withdraw the PPA updates a bit, make the system a more generic Ubuntu «Gnu / linux» and that you already have the latest compatible software without so many problems that PPAs sometimes bring ... Will they make up for the lateness of unity8? ... I don't know ... but although your desktop remains in unity 7 (slightly improved in performance and functions), I think it's still a good distro if you're looking for integration and good hardware compatibility.
