Ubuntu Touch OTA-24 is now available, and it is the penultimate version based on Ubuntu 16.04

Ubuntu Touch near Focal Fossa

At some point it will have to be true, and it seems that we are close to it. Ubuntu Touch is now based on Ubuntu 16.04, a Xenial Xerus that six years ago that was released and one and a half that is no longer supported, but it has always been said that better late than never. And no, it's not that the latest version of the operating system is already based on Focal Fosa; is that they assure that we are facing the penultimate before making the jump to the 20.04 base.

So what announced UBports on his blog, saying that OTA-24 is the last of 16.04 with important functions, and that in the next one, in OTA-25, they will focus on correcting the errors for now, it is supposed and expected that in OTA-26, we will start using an Ubuntu Touch based on Ubuntu 20.04. This is good news, of course, but the most pessimistic will remember that the base they will use at the time of the jump will be one that has already been with us for three years, so the support will be reduced from 5 to 2 years (until 2025).
