We just have a couple of windows that do nothing and a lot of speculation. but youodo leads one to think that Windows could implement the sudo command, a tool that Linux and Mac users consider essential.
Or at least that's what emerges from a test image of the server version of Windows 11 supposedly leaked by accident and to which they had access the editors of the Windows Latest portal.
Windows could implement the sudo command
The use of potential is because there are no guarantees that this feature will make it to the final version. I remember that from one of the development versions of Windows 8 I was able to access the Ubuntu Ext4 partition without the need for additional software. However, it never reached the final version and we had to wait for Windows 10 and Windows Subsstem for Linux to be able to do so.
The sudo command was detected in Windows 11 for servers within the developer options. In Windows Latest they speculate that it could be used to uninstall preinstalled applications, change system configurations and other administrative tasks that temporarily require administrator user privileges.
As we said, at the moment you only see the activation window, but none of the options shown produce any results. The modes that we describe below are those that appear in the window. The description is speculation by the editors of the site that we site as a source.
- In a separate window: This would open a Command Prompt window (Windows Terminal), PowerShell, or some other application to type and execute commands.
- Input disabled: Windows Latest believes that this option would disable the mouse or keyboard while the command is executed. This would prevent unauthorized actions.
- Online: Maybe it's the execution within the current window. Ideal for quick tasks and not having to exit from the application you are using.
Nor can we miss the well-known security warning included by companies that live in a society as litigious as that of the United States. In this case alert that using the sudo command could expose personal data and the installation to security risks. And, if that were not enough, damage the device.
Windows already includes two applications that Sudo could be integrated into. The Command Prompt and PowerShell tool. It may also work with your Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code integrated development environments.
In case Microsoft includes this feature, there is a good chance that it will also come to the Desktop. What is certain is that it will not be in the next release, the 24H2 version that will be focused on Artificial Intelligence. This includes an advanced version of the Copilot assistant and advanced resolution setting for wallpapers.
What is the sudo command
We Linux users know it well, but since it is likely that we have Windows users who came to us out of curiosity, we are going to explain what this command is for.
Sudo is short for Super User do and It has been with us since the 80s when it was created at the University of Colorado for the Unix operating system.
Bob Coggeshall and Cliff Spencer developed it for grant users super user privileges in a restricted and controlled manner, allowing them to perform certain administrative tasks without affecting the system or having to log in as an administrator user.
Unix-inspired operating systems such as Linux, FreeBSD, and macOS They adopted it for tasks such as installing and uninstalling programs or making modifications to system files.
In these operating systems, The super user or root user is the one with the highest privileges.giving permanent access to the entire system and being able to modify any file. You can assign or remove privileges to other users, install and uninstall programs, change settings, and perform maintenance tasks.
Finally, if you are wondering what the illustration means, the original title of this post was going to be Windows users are going to start sweating. But, even for an article written by me it was not very serious.
